Treatment

It's not just PMS. PMDD is real — and treatable.

Description

Premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a severe, cyclical mood disorder linked to hormonal changes in the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle. It can be profoundly debilitating — and it's frequently dismissed or misdiagnosed.

Why It Happens

Women with PMDD don't have abnormal hormone levels. Their hormones cycle normally. What's different is how their brain responds to those normal hormonal shifts — particularly the drop in progesterone and its byproduct, allopregnanolone, in the lead-up to a period.

Common Symptoms

Extreme mood swings, irritability or anger in the 1-2 weeks before your period

Depression, hopelessness or anxiety that lifts with menstruation

Difficulty functioning at work, in relationships, or socially

Physical symptoms including bloating, breast tenderness and fatigue

How We Help

PMDD can be complex and deeply personal. Our registered healthcare practitioners take time to understand what you are experiencing—not just your period. We look at how your mood, physical symptoms and everyday life change across your cycle, while considering other health factors that may be contributing.Together, we will create a personalised care plan based on your needs and preferences. This may include symptom tracking, practical lifestyle support, psychological therapies such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT), or a discussion of evidence-based medical and hormonal treatment options where clinically appropriate. If you need specialist care, we can help guide you towards the right next step.
